Summary of Organisation Profile

Established in 1996, Golden Agri-Resources (GAR) now has operations across 14 countries, and our products are delivered to around 100 countries worldwide, including China, India and the USA as well as various destinations in Europe and the Middle East. GAR was listed on the Singapore Exchange in 1999.

GAR is a global leader in palm oil production, producing around 2.43 million tonnes of crude palm oil (CPO) in 2022. We manage about 538,000 hectares of plantations, including smallholder farms, across Indonesia. Our downstream refining and specialty product facilities manufacture high-quality products for the global agronomy, food, oleochemical, and bioenergy markets. Through our primary subsidiary we were an early member of the RSPO joining in 2005 as PT SMART Tbk. GAR has remained an active member of the Roundtable in various working groups, taskforces and standing committees.

GAR is at forefront of agronomy and technology thanks to our focus and investment in R&D. We have also been expanding our downstream capabilities to produce higher value-added end products. GAR has cultivated a global, diversified customer base through strong distribution, branding, merchandising, destination processing, shipping and logistics.

With great palm oil production comes great corporate social responsibility. GAR has achieved 98 percent Traceability to Plantation (TTP) of our palm supply chain at the end of 2022. 100 percent of our plantations have social and community development programmes in place. We have also set aside 79,900 hectares for conservation.

The GAR Social and Environmental Policy (GSEP) is our roadmap to realising our twin objectives of sustainable growth and leading a sustainable palm oil industry.

PT Inti Indosawit Subur (Asian Agri) is a group of oil palm cultivation and processing companies. Established in 1979, to date Asian Agri manages 30 plantations, 22 palm oil mills, 11 Kernel Crushing Plants, and 10 Biogas Plants in North Sumatra, Riau, and Jambi, as well as in partnership with 8 smallholder estates. In total, we manage around 100,000 ha of our own estates and around 60,000 ha of Plasma smallholders. In addition, we engage with independent smallholders that manage more than 39,100 ha of land. Our head office is located in Medan, North Sumatra, and our supporting regional offices are set up in Pekanbaru, Jambi, and Jakarta.

We established our research and development department to support our commitment to sustainability by producing varieties of quality seeds with higher yields and better disease tolerance, furthering our goal to promote intensification rather than expansion.
Our operation is managed by qualified and skilled employees. We also contribute to the empowerment and welfare improvement of around 21,500 employees and workers.

We are committed to implementing sustainable practices in our mills and estates. In order to make continuous improvements, our practices are periodically audited by internal audit teams as well as external parties. By implementing RSPO, ISCC, and ISPO principles, we are obliged to comply with any environmental, financial, and socio-worker-related regulations. We are focused on conserving the environment and protecting the rights of our workers and local communities, while allowing the potential of the palm oil industry to lift millions out of poverty in Indonesia. To date, all of our estates have been 100% RSPO certified, 100% ISCC certified, and 100% ISPO certified. Out of 22 mills, we have obtained 21 ISCC certificates and 20 RSPO certificates.

Apart from ISPO, RSPO and ISCC, we also participate in several other international certification schemes such as:

  • Kosher, our mills and KCPs have been Kosher certified since 2016
  • GMP+; we have been part of the Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) certification scheme since 2015 which provides independent verification and certification on food safety
  • GGL; Green Gold Label (GGL) is one of the sustainable certifications for biomass products that has been recognized and applied globally. Our palm kernel shell has been fully GL certified since December 2021.
